dont know if you can really see it clearly but it seems as if the strike was small or something.. the picture runs up the side of the coin along with the wording on the coin the sides are bulged a little... this might be achieved from rolling it back and forth a million times... or maybe a clamp didnt get held when the coin was struck allowing the coin to over expand and come out... Im not quite sure... I just found this coin in one of my dressers along with a big bag of world coins from everywhere.. this one struck me as odd... its most likely nothing but i felt i should let people with more experience get ahold of it.... ~Large~ Click Me ~Large~ Mach
It kind of looks like how they start out making a ring out of a coin...But, if that's the case, the guy had gorilla hands to need a half dollar
Now there is something you don't see every day - a truly ugly Walking Liberty. Definitely post-mint damage.
I'd say the beginning of a coin ring, too... maybe someone just got tired, or Judge Judy came on, and they forgot to come back to it. do the edges stick up?
yes the edges stick up and the words liberty and the date and basicaly anything along the side is going up too.. this has been in a cedar chest long before judge judy was ever on tv... or color on tv for that matter... I just recently put the bag it was in into my dresser ...its been in there for quite some time... my question is just how the heck do you spend that much time rolling it back and forth to create a ring... it would take me a million years to get it as far as it is... I think GD posted a link to a website once that told all about it... you tamp it with a spoon over and over. It sounded like a zen patience meditation to me.
Machiavelli - where about's in washington are you from? I grew up in Seattle - moved to the midwest after college, though... I miss it.
I'd have to say rick is correct - it looks like someone was spooning that coin. It is a time consuming process - as a child, I spent a week making one once. Quite often though folks get tired of the effort rquired before they are finished - and just quit. I think that's what happened here.
heheh yeah rick Im from Spanaway its near Tacoma about 30-35 miles from Seattle and to the rest thanks I was just wondering what was up with it... ill have to ask my grandmother if she was bored one weak and decided to hit a coin with a spoon and role it across a table lmao... Thanks all Mach
