Is this tone or damage from the plastic? or? Found these in a old clock. They seem to be behind plastic/acrylic....is this tone/tarnish or damage? Thanks and sorry for the poor pictures
That does not look like PVC. As Chris has stated, it is typically bright green. Woods contain acids and toning is typically accelerated by an acidic environment. These coins have been in this clock for quite a while and the acidic environment, likely along with any finish that the wood was treated with prior to sale, make a great place for a coin to take on a layer of toning.
