    Hi Folks,

Another newbie quesion if I may. I see many people talking about getting their coins graded and I checked the PCGS web site and it seems you have to be a dealer or belong to their club (for money) to get coins graded. Paying for the privledge of paying has always rankled me a little bit.

So are most of you dealers? Or do you join the club to get your coins graded?

    Thanks

If you are a member of the ANA you have direct submission to NGC, or at least thats the way it used to be.

There are several different ways to get a coin slabbed at what I consider the 3 major TPG's:

If you want your coins graded by PCGS, you either have to join the Collectors Club or send them in through a PCGS authorized dealer. If you choose to join the Collectors Club it is most beneficial to join at the Platinum level. Though it is the most expensive choice, you get 8 free submissions when you join at this level.

If you want your coins graded by NGC, you must join the Collectors Society, submit them through an NGC authorized dealer, or if you are an ANA member ($36 for one year) you may also submit to NGC directly.

The best choice for you may be ANACS. They allow anyone to submit to them directly with no membership fees and they have some of the lowest submission costs. That being said, coins in ANACS slabs tend to have a lower sale value than those in PCGS or NGC plastic.

    Hope this helped!

If you have an Ebay user ID (doesn't everyone :D ) then you can send coins to NGC.

    strange

Thats strange, I also grade my own, and let me tell you it is nice to have a complete collection of coins graded ms 68 to 70.:D (just kidding) I to am also an amateur butcher.
Honestly I have had no coins graded, but when the time comes to sell I may have to bite the bullet so I can maximise my coins values. I would only have the coins graded that could jump in value with just a few grades.

I think you need to take into account the value of the coins you want to have submitted. If they are very expensive and top tier coins you might go one away but if they are bulk coins you may go another.
