Hi All, Well, I have looked at the previous threads on this and I have even posted two 1970-s before. I really just think it would be better to double check with you guys. The Liberty is not clean and to me looks pretty even with the 7 and 0. I am not sure about the hooked 9. Please let me know, I just can't tell with the posted pictures,,,,,,,,oh yes it is a totally different penny
Large I keep all S pennies so that combined with my beginner skills have found myself time and time again digging out my 1970s and studying them until my eyes hurt. Never seeing a Small Date I guess makes it even harder pick out......experience, age, somehow equals wisdom.. haha What I do is think of the 9 not being there ...... 1 70 Large Date is similar to how its typed above, where if you drew a line under the numbers, the 7 hangs below the 1 and 0. Small Date has the 1,7,and 0 all about the same size, lining up on both the top and bottom other than the 1 cut a lil short on the bottom... I am no expert, but I no longer dig out my 1970 S dream crushers..
Large date. The 7 is below the 0 (top line), and the 9 is notched at the end, it's not "pointy", plus it's pointed towards the mintmark, not back towards the 7. Also there's no fading on LIBERTY.
This link should help http://www.lincolncentresource.com/doubledies/1970Sddo1.html_ & http://coppercoins.com/diesearch.php?date=1970&date1=1970&thismint=pds&thistype=dodrrdodmmom&page=3
Oh, definately wanted to check because the 7 looks a bit longer due to PMD and the liberty does not look clear to me, however after all the GREAT advice and sites I was able to draw a straight line on my photo from the top of the 0 to the 1, this shows the 0 to be slightly higher and the 7 to be dropped :-( THANKS AGAIN! Where there is a will, there is a way! I will find one ;-)
If you look in the thread here: http://www.cointalk.com/threads/1970s-small-date.237534/ I posted one of my proof small dates. Although not the best pic, you can see the difference in the pointy ends of the "9", and see how the IGWT and LIBERTY is much weaker in the strike. Hopefully that helps you looking in the future.
