I love small Coin Shows (20-50 dealers) and try to make it to at least one a month. How many shows, big or small, do you go to a year?
I've only been to 1 ever; hopefully once I have a less demanding schedule when I'm older I'll attend a couple each year. I really enjoyed the one I went to though.
IDK, maybe 25. I am lucky there are a few monthly shows around here, and I try to hit 4-5 larger shows each year.
I've always worked a lot of hours at my full time job (non-numismatic), and made time only for one monthly local show and the winter FUN Show. I'm trying Baltimore later this month at the behest of a bunch of other dealers. If that goes well, I may become a regular . . . my hope is that I can add one major show per year in the coming decade so that I can be doing 10-12 majors per year by the time I retire (or semi-retire) from my FTJ.
If I go, yeah definitely. Me and MaineBill might take a drive down south. He'll probably have money, I wont, LOL.
I'm probably down to going to 1 coin show a year. It was really exciting when the price of gold was going up, not so much anymore.
About four large shows a year. If they are out of state, I'll try to make all the days, usually spending a little time checking out the surrounding area. Throw in a few, one day, small local shows/auctions as well.
I've recently started attending the spring and fall Whitman shows in Baltimore. Haven't done the summer show yet, still considering for this year. Anyone want to recommend small shows in the Baltimore area that would be useful?
I used to go all the time to Vegas, but I have not been because of high debt problems keeping me away. I am determined to go in September. I am committed to going. I sure miss looking thru world coins for 8 hours straight. who needs food ? lol just water lol
it might be easier but at shows you might find a coin you have been looking for forever at a coin show. I miss the interaction with the dealers I deal with. It always fun catching up on their life and their coin pursuits. I get a I thrill from showing them a coin I have been hunting for 10 years.
Plus, there simply is no substitute for seeing coins in person. The best way to acclimate yourself to a series is to see a lot of them in person. The reason I go to shows is a few: 1. To see a lot of coins in person. 2. To chat about coins with both dealers and other collectors 3. For deals. There are a lot of dealers out there who simply do not use the internet. I was in the market for a nice Oregon Trail. I was at a show Sunday jus bumming around and a dealer who seemed nice had a number of PCGS early commemoratives. I found a very nice MS65 Oregon Trail. Original tone, nice color, very nice luster. Price? $190. Please find me another nice MS65 Oregon Trail online for that price. Seriously, find me another and I will buy that one too.
I've only been to shows in the small town of Norwich, NY. They stopped the show last year so now I'll need to travel a ways to get to a show. I must say that you can get some pretty good coins at a reasonable price at a show and it was nice to see others as passionate as me on coins. It is definately a good way to spend a few hours on the weekend.
agreed. #1 for sure, pics are good but seeing the coin is person is so much better, #2 yup, I sure enjoy it. they might show me a coin I might be interested in knowing what I like that I did not know about. there's no substitute for talking/shows coins with other collectors that are as passionate about coins as I am. #3 I have gotten such great deals on coins at Vegas shows.. #4 I have taken my very detailed want lists to my regular dealers and they have found/got some of the coins I have had on my want list for a long time. coin show dealers are a great resource to find you coins you have trying to hunt down for a long long time.
