The 2005 nickels had a strange visage of Tom Jefferson. The first time I saw it, I couldn't help but to think of the old McDonald's character from the late '80s named Mac Tonight. If you are too young or don't remember Mac, here he is in all of his lunar glory:

Am I the only one to see the resemblance?

I was in my mid-30's back then, but I sure don't recall "Mac Tonight" and the correlation to Old MacDonald.

    Spell "cow": C-O-W...E-I-E-I-O

Nope. Don't remember, but I was very busy in the 80's.. kids, business, not much time for TV if that's where it was.

I remember the McDonald's advertising campaign with that "character".

Here is the 2005 Nickel Obverse you say reminds you of that "character"...

There's a vague resemblance lol but I would not have thought about that if you hadn't suggested it. I can only chalk it up to coincidence (3/4 portraits greatly predate either the Mint's or McDonald's use of them).

"Mac Tonight" aside, I much prefer the 2005 version of TJ than the one now used....too cartoonish.
