You can buy rolls at face value.

    Is that a good thing?

Depends on whether or not you want to buy these. I wouldn't put a quantity of these away, as the mintages are higher for the later issues.

If I lived close enough - especially to Arches - I would go. It's one of my favorite places to camp / hike / take pictures. It would be fun to get a quarter featuring the park while visiting the actual park being honored.

You can buy these at face value at the release ceremonies. If you look at the prices for bags and rolls on the US Mint website, you'll find that this is one heck of a bargain.

I would prefer to buy the bags in the largest quantity possible, and as many as I could afford. If you're into searching for varieties and errors, this method will give you the best chance of finding multiples of any one variety or error.

In spite of what others think, I've always had great success finding high grades from bags. When I was actively submitting new-release coins for grading, I got about 6 dozen uncirculated quarters and halves in MS68. These more than paid for the entire costs of the bags.

I still haven't found an ATB in circulation.

I've found several so far: Gettysburg, Olympic Park, etc. Maybe living in Denver has something to do with it. They're still relatively rare, but not hugely so.

kanga: No ATB's in circulation!!?? My gosh, I have several dozen! Though I must admit some came from coin roll hunting.

Got three quarters in change today.. 2 state quarters, and a mount rushmore. First ATB I've seen in circulation.

A friend went to the release. She picked up a roll of the quarters for me. Now what? Take a pic of it and upload to photobucket to prove the release date? Put it in my safe and forget about it?

  16. I have never done this, but have heard that some people put a stamp on it and get the PO to postmark the date on the stamp as provenance. Seems like too much effort to me.

Hmmm...the post office is about 50 yards away, and I have to drop off a couple letters anyway, so why not???

They work really good in soda machines.

Here is the real info. I went to the post office and they have a rubber stamp for the release. They sell you a postal stamp and then you take the rubber stamp and stamp the roll. I also stamped it with the post office cancel stamp.

There was a gentleman there that stamped about 50 rolls.

While I respect your opinion, that arch is just not near as iconic as delicate arch. Plus, for some strange reason the ATB's with animals on them just don't seem to have much demand. I have no idea why, but none of them with animals depicted have done well so far.
