    Hey all,

So, maybe this shouldn't bother me as much as it is, or even at all, but there's a site in my city where people sell their used stuff & People have started selling coins on there, & I'm pretty sure someone is trying to majorly rip someone off. Can I please get some opinions as to what this 1959D Franklin Half should be graded at & what the value is then? I'd really appreciate it. The seller is listing it as "worth 2,150 FBL 66 by PCGS.com" (their words exactly) & selling it for $1,000. I told the person they were crazy, & then they wrote me back "THEN WHY IS SOMEONE OFFERING ME $500???" (Again, the yelling, his words..). Anyway, am I missing that this coin is worth this much? If so, I have a bunch of Franklins that I should be selling.... Thanks all! PS This is the only posted coin, he didn't even bother posting a pic of the back....

For me, based on that picture, I'd only buy at melt value.

Guy can sell it for whatever he wants, it doesn't mean someone will buy it. For me, I would stay away.

Thanks. I have no plans on buying it - I already have one in similar condition. What I am not understanding is if he is completely making it up, or if someone actually told him they think this is what it is worth. And, I feel like whoever is offering him the $500, may be doing so off of him claiming it's worth over $2,000. Of course, he very well may be making that up to try to get me to buy it, but if someone is actually offering him $500, it's certainly not a real coin collector, because they are doing so without even seeing the back of the coin. I just wish there was a way to warn the person against buying it, but then again, I also don't want to start a war with a guy that may be a dangerous con artist...

Lol. There's also people doing things like posting backs of Buffalo Nickels saying "it's a REALLY old coin, make me your best offer" lol. I write back & say it's not that old, that my early 1800's coins are only so old in the grand scheme of things, & so their coin isn't necessarily old. I then ask if it has the year, like I'm interested in buying it, & then they say the year is rubbed off....Dear god people scare me with their stupidity.... But, it also makes me sad that some people try to take advantage of others, & that some just are so ignorant, but maybe because they grew up not knowing there was another way of life...

Worth about $7 in my opinion. I seriously doubt if the seller has a $500 offer, no rational person would make a purchase of this size without doing some basic research.

Its pretty common for someone to claim something like that. They post a coin for an outlandish price, but when challenged magically have "someone else offering me $X". I cannot recall how many times I have heard the same, (even on CT before). The seller is delusional, no sense trying to talk any sense to them. If someone is truly, truly stupid he might sell it. Just walk away. You cannot stop someone trying to sell something overpriced to someone else. If you could, half of the used car lots would be out of business, as well as a ton of other businesses, right? Best thing you can do is educate yourself and not be that sucker.

If anyone wants one of these "fantastic" coins, most dealers have tons of them in their junk silver boxes.

Follow medoraman's advice. Don't try to become the savior of the world especially since you don't know what this lunatic might do.

"THEN WHY IS SOMEONE OFFERING ME $500???"
