    1985 D quarter without reeding and possibly remains of letters ( like the dollars).

    can you make out what letters there are on the edge, and if so what do you think they spell out ?

    They spell, "We didn't use edge lettering on any circulating coins in 1985."

    I have one like this, and the concensus was that it was simply heavily worn, with the conjecture that this was most likely from having spent a considerable time cycling through slot machines.
