I was watching this auction for this $10 gold Indian and it appeared to be a proof. I see there were only 50ish minted so I doubt if was an actual proof, but how much of a premium does something like this carry? I'd like to add some older gold coins to my collection but I know nothing about gold!
Gorgeous coin. 1893 ten dollar coins do sometimes have a pl finish someone made us happy by polishing up the dies a bit lol. Say a 63 1893 sells for 11-1300, the pl version could talk on a $500 premium to about 1600-1700 roughly, retail.
I'm not in love with it... Really hard to tell from those pics... I'm a little suspect of the "hazing" under the profile and under the wings... I wonder if it might have had help getting PL.

Yes lostdutchman i agree there is a chance some auto clay or something was used but i cannot tell for sure because of the photos it could also be luster. Thats why i buy gold slabbed unless its in hand
Nice coin with pl characters but I wonder especially from the color if the photos are juiced be good to see in hand
Maine, there is no doubt the pictures are taken at a "favorable" angle but what do you mean they rubbed out blemishes or enhanced it?
Bigtee the price for this coin is a bit high anyway, why not look for a slabbed example even in pl, thy are out there. Its not like its a date thats tough to find
I know, I was just watching it until it ended, it was slightly over melt until the last minute when it shot up. The seller also had some other rare gold coins. I'm not looking to buy anything just yet, just looking to see what I can get for my money. Want to make an educated buy, and not an impulse buy.
I commend you for doing that. It is tough sometimes not to pull the trigger and fall into impulse. Usually i try to wait a week if i want to buy a coin if i go back to the shop and still want it i will buy. If its gone or im over the impulse thats fine too
I think they might have played with them to enhance the contrast and pl characteristics is all the color is totally off it looks more silver then gold I'm no tech or photo expert but I know coins and what they look like and something in the pics seems off and unnatural
Lighting can really change the appearance of the coins. I've had gold coins look like this under some lights, then a nice yellow gold under others. Same goes with silver.
Late to the party here, but as said 1893 are commonly seen with PL tendencies. Despite being a high mintage year, 1893 tens don't come real nice and PL coins tend to really show every nick and mark. Here is mine, which if cleaned up (haze or putty or pvc) might get a PL designation from NGC. PCGS does not use PL designations on gold.
