The letter says she is leaving ebay and that the special reporting link would stop working. From that you conclude that she was fired, the reason is cost cutting, that counterfeiters are going to run amok, that ebay is a terrible thing, people are going to get stuck with fake slabs, ebay is opening itself up to lawsuits, and about a dozen other unsubstantiated claims?
I see nothing to conclude she is no longer working at eBay let alone that she was fired. As for the links, I got that from experience PRIOR to the letter. I have no idea what or where eBay is going from here.
Yep, and it continues to have about as much effect as the "close doors" button on an elevator. Once upon a time, the "report item" form had a field to let you type in an explanation. That went away in a previous "upgrade", so now there's no way to clarify why you're reporting an item. Between that, and the fact that response time on "report item" is rumored to be a week or more, it just seems kind of pointless.
I bet ebay has all sorts of trouble with things being reported that shouldn't or people with best of intentions reporting non issues and what not. Not that I defend ebay, but how much manpower($) can they put into each listing? I suppose they now have an algorithm that looks at reports and if things are flagged by the algorithm someone eventually takes a look. This may also play to buyers advantage if there is a problem down the road and it had been reported ebay may skew there judgement based on peer reporting. Who knows
Report Item > Copyright and Trademark > Counterfeit Item or Authenticity Disclaimer > Counterfeit, Fake, or Replica Item This will still give a text box to explain why you are reporting the item. Will it actually work? Remains to be seen.
Huh. Good catch! I'll try to remember that path. From all I've heard, the Copyright Police are always much more aggressive (and better-funded) than any other "consumer protection" branches. For extra attention and speed, perhaps you could hint that a questionable coin somehow infringes on Disney or Microsoft IP.
Dunno. It does seem like they'd eventually decide to add some level of filtering for "nuisance reporters". It's also pretty certain that they wouldn't notify the people who are being filtered -- if you tell someone why their reports are being rejected, they'll try to fiddle with their reporting to get around the filter, and that makes them harder to ignore.
With this news following the password hacks last week makes me wonder about Ebay. All I can say is do your homework and check it twice......at least. Make dang sure it has a return policy from a seller that lives in the good old USA.
Never mind counterfeits, here's an example of the kind of auction I've mentioned once or twice before: Lot of 4 - 2010 $50 American Gold Buffalo PCGS MS70 First Strike $5000 BIN, with gold at $1250/oz -- exactly at melt. Free shipping. I went in on two similar auctions in March. In the first, the account owner said "OMG I've been hacked", and refunded the money. In the second, the owner said "yep, it's legit", and gave me a tracking number -- insured for $100 or less, which I watched as it went from its West Coast source to its West Coast destination. In that case, Buyer Protection covered me, of course, but took its sweet time about it. I've seen at least a dozen auctions along this same line. This is the latest I've stumbled across. I could save eBay, the future buyer, and some inactive account owner a good bit of trouble (and possibly money) if there were an effective method for me to report it. Oh, well -- not my business any more, I suppose.
I've seen a lot of changes in ebay over the years, some good, some not so good................... I feel this one goes in the not so good category.
Yeah that sure seems like an obvious set of steps to take to report a counterfeit coin. If you didn't know the steps, why would you chose Copyright and Trademark to report a counterfeit coin? Maybe obvious for a fake slab but not for a coin.
Well, I am pleasantly surprised. I tried reporting a couple counterfeits last night and they are both gone. I used the Copyright/trademark route for those. I also report several other for rules violations. All of them were also removed. So maybe ...........
