Coin World value - Quarter 1918-S AU-58 --$1,175?

Coin World has for several months been listing the value of a Standing Liberty 1918-S AU58 as $1,175 . The magazine lists the value of an MS-60 as $190. Is that AU-58 price a typo? If not a typo, why did the average price skyrocket like that? The only thing I can think of is that somehow one particularly nice AU-58 (FH, perhaps?) was sold at an abnormally high price thus skewing the price average. Any thoughts?

Have you thought about contacting CW and asking why?

Excellent question and yes, I have given it a lot of thought and decided it would be a rather lame question. So-- I asked you fine folks. ;-)

It's rather pointless asking here. That would be like asking an Eskimo what value he would place on a camel. Go to the source.

Take a picture of your 1918-S AU58 beside a picture of the $1175 value, then put it on eBay. :)

The Inuit folks up in northern Alaska and Canada could easily use their smart phones and look up camel pricing.

And; okay, I will send a letter to the editor at Coin World. (smile)
