I have spent over a month trying to ID this with KM catalogues... Possibly Indian?

Hi guys... I have been stuck on this little coin which I have been trying to ID for about a month now. I have gone through every image in KM catalogues for india from 1700 to 1940... Stumped!

I've been told this :" coin has islamic calligraphy on it, so my guess is it may belong to Mughal Empire era. They used Islamic motifs extensively during Akbar's regime. Search for more coin patterns from Mughal's time and you will notice the similarity. Now someone who can read 'urdu' may be able to give more inputs."

My comments may be naive, as I dont know anything about coins from this region. But just a suggestion: if you have searched for that long within one country with no results, might it not be a neighboring country such as Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, etc? Maybe even Afghanistan? The person whom you quoted above may have unintentionally pointed you in the wrong direction...

    Good luck.

Not naive at all mate. I am going through these countries as well.

This other copper coin was found in the same lot so may perhaps be from the same country, though obviously not guaranteed.

The temple image seems so distinct as does the "6 character" design on the first coin that I would have though ID'ing these would have been fairly simple! Not the case.

Your first one is a Kori or half Kori (depending on size) from Kutch (19 th century).
One side is in Arabic, other Devanagari.

Yes it seems to be! Thanks! Good god... after all that... Problem being I still can't find the exact match possibly because the coin is rather thick and thus didn't get a full strike? Would be good if someone could translate it.

Look at C#65 in Krause. The picture below that is of a full Kori. Yours probably is a half Kori. This is struck with the same die as the full kori, but contains only part of the legends because the planchet is smaller.
