Thing is, he does know more than nearly anyone else on here about Morgans. I just had objections to the way he was responding in this thread.

Eric, I hope you won't be too put off by some of the responses here. If you ever do decide to start collecting Morgans, you can find a wealth of information here, and Morgandude11 is one of the best sources for it. Just a bit prickly at times.

 

That is your opinion. It is tiring to get the endless indirect questions as to what their coin is worth. Posters such as the OP aren't hobbyists-- they are using the board resources to see if their coin is a "Stradivarius in the attic." I find the "what is my coin worth". Type of questions purely opportunistic, and respond in kind.

 

Thanks, Jeff. I appreciate your honest comments. I do tend to get blunt, as this is a very involving hobby, with much money and resources at stake. I like to be honest with newbies, and will help anybody who is sincere about the hobby. Being equally blunt, anybody using people's expertise to find out if they have hidden easy money is offensive to me. Yeah, I can be onery, but if some folks think I am tough, try doing big-time coin deals with the " big boys," and not get slapped around. lol

 

Or you could just not respond...? If the question is beneath you, don't waste your time.
This guy had a legit question since he had no real knowledge of coins, came to this site and asked his question, got a snarky response from you, and now has no desire to come back and possibly learn more. Who knows, if you had been a bit more tactful and less rude you could have helped someone foster their interest in coins and create a collector for life.

 

Not that it is " beneath me." That isn't the issue. The questions were insincere. Genuine hobbyists try to gain information about the series, not specific coin genuineness and valuation. It is the " do I have an instant gold mine" type of question that elicits some sarcasm from me.

 

I know your frustration and understand why you responded as you did.
I've felt like that and responded in a like way to those that come here looking for info on a coin and not getting the answer they want and telling everyone that they don't know what they are talking about.
Even though the OP may have been here looking for instant riches, you didn't help any in opening another mind to numismatics by showing your frustration so soon.
