Well after two hours going through this thread, I had a blast. Yarm you have some awesome medals, a lot of y'all do. So I will post one that has to be in this thread. This is a C.O.I.N (Convention Of International Numismatics) Tribute medal. But it's cast. There's a seam and a casting sprue that's been worked over with a file. The reverse is the stock side of their regular convention medals. But what about the tribute side? What did they use as a host for that? I think I opened Pandora's box with C.O.I.N. 26.6grms, 37mm 3.5 thick, M/A. Not sure what metal. Maybe antiqued pot metal?
Well here are some of my neat ones. D Carr specials. First up is a 20 Amero's. This is one NICE coin in hand. I am not much for copper but I had to get it and I am glad I did... Next is the first item of D Carr's I purchased. I have used this to explain currencies and how they work to folks. This was a very good purchase and it is worth much more than I paid for it, if I were to sell. And finally being a Kennedy collector, I just HAD to have one of these. I am still debating the 1975 etc but for now, this will do just fine.
I recently picked up a small batch of good for tokens, but this one stood out to me. What's cool is what it is redeemable for, check it out! And by the way, the reverse is the same as the front.
Well made it by the LCS today and since it has been a couple of weeks his exonumia has been restocked so to speak. The following are Isle of Man 1 crowns coins, but since they are in cased and come with a card and the one comes with a stuffed kitty and shopping bag! Any body that is owned by a cat knows why. all the reverses are the same other than the dates. Here is the other style
The regular ones that they make for circulation are listed in the world coin book but these were something that have the something extra! I have been trying to find these at LCS's sometimes I get lucky
When I saw your hospital token from Johnson City, NY Circus, it rang a bell. Dave Bowers and Jim Ruddy formed the Empire Coin Co. in Johnson City in 1958 when Bowers was only 20 years old. It wasn't his first venture in the coin business, but it was his first partnership. Great tokens Circus. Thanks for showing them. Bruce
MyHobby, That Edward VI medal is particularly handsome! I've seen the obverse on another medal but never that cool reverse.
Some more A generic token with a stock eagle die, and no cash value A dual purpose token/good luck piece, another stock dies token with the hope that people will keep at least one for a pocket piece. The credit card companies bid to make a little money from when they had an association with NASCAR. A blast from trying to recreate the past, the only money units that were to be accepted by the on site vendors. They came in $1,5,10,20,50's
