Whoooooa Bob..back up that horse!!! You will find it a general topic around here that you will pay wayyyyyyyyyy toooooooooooooooooooooo muchhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh for those slick talking number chrunching wallet theives!! and that was a nice way of putting it!:headbang: :headbang:

Best find a good dealer or internet auction house and do your business in that sort of fashion. It cost big bucks to put that BS on the Air..and you pay for it. From a Sales standpoint..what a great line of sales talk they have. But's thats all they have...don't do it!!!

OH yeah, it is very hated around here, and rightfully so. Those people have alot of costs to cover from putting that stuff on television, but you should not pay for those costs when you can get fair deals elsewhere. The other day, I saw a guy on one of those shows manhandling a UNC coin, while wearing a huge plastic glove like the one my mother wears when she cleans the toilet. And he said that the SIlver eagle design was designed originally by Augustus st. Gaudens, when in fact it was actually designed by Adolph A. Weinamn. Those guys are idiots!

I have a slightly different view. I doubt very many serious collectors buy anything from HSN. Everything they sell is about double what it should cost. But a large segment of the target market is most likely people buying gifts for people in their family who are collectors, and the buyers wouldn't have any idea what to buy or where to go other than HSN. This enables them to get the gift, have it shipped, and have it presented in a nice holder, and they are probably willing to pay a premium to obtain it.

well hsn is overpriced but every time i watch it i learn something new about coins. i guess thats the only good thing about it. their more overpriced than littleton!

I think "despised" would be a more accurate characterization. ;)

And some of the time what you learn is actually correct. [IMG]

T.V. coin shows have a laugh value for people like us and that's the only value....

Frequently, it isn't what you don't know that hurts you. It's the stuff that you know that turns out to be wrong.

They are always saying how rare and that the mint has stopped making them! Or they (mint) sold out and you go to the mints website and the coins are still there...it's a bunch of Sales double talk!!

Where does Roy get those smilies? That's a great one!

Oh, and yes, the entertainment value of HSN is about all the value that there is.

I do watch the t.v. coin shows but to buy from them is not wise. On average, whatever price they're selling for is about twice what you should be paying. I do like to listen to what they have to say about availability, demand, and general thoughts about the "hobby". I use it as one more "tool" about what's going on, along with "coin world" and "numismatic news". Don't be too quick to dial the "800" number or go to the "web site" so you don't have to wait to make your purchase.

Friend of mine likes to watch Hsn coin show and I like to watch the coin vault. We get into arguments all the time when we try to determine which show told the biggest lie.

other night they were talking about the 2006w silver eagle and how they got an email from someone who questioned them if this were not the same coin that was in the Silver anniversary eagle set. Of course it was not according to them. totally different coin. Different dies , finish, blanks ect. what this did was turned an approximately 7x more scarce coin into a 15x more scarce coin when compared to the '96 silver eagle. Now this is from people who supposedly know their coins and have been in the business for a bunch of years

And this financing they offer, (stretch pay , flex pay) you have to pay for this if you do not want it. I mean If i can not get it I sure do not need credit and do not expect to pay for someone elses.

I was out of collecing for a long time. I saw a buffalo First day of issue and decided what the heck to get an IGC buffalo . Anyhow they could not find me and confirm my order so it was cancelled I look back on this now as one of the best thing that has happend to me in several year.
