I just sold a 1500.00 dollar coin on Ebay. The buyer has zero feedback, and joined Ebay today. Besides shipping with signature confirmation, any other advice?
i would never sell a coin for $1500 to a ebay buyer with zero feedback. i required anyone under 5 feedback to contact me before they even put a bid.
Ok, I pulled satellite imaging of his house. I cant make heads or tails whether he is a honest person from this image. I will try to zoom in.
Crooks don't necessarily live in the ghetto. Stop the detective work, it'll only give you an ulcer. Just don't ship, cancel the sale and re-list, or make a second chance offer.
Hey, every buyer has to start somewhere. They don't, however, have to start with a $1500 coin. More specifically, they don't have to start with my $1500 coin. Or, presumably, yours. I'm not sure how you can get out of this without getting a negative feedback and/or a ding for not following through on the auction, but that might be better than trying to go through with it. If you do, make sure you follow all eBay's Seller Protection requirements to the letter, and slam on the brakes if the buyer fails to comply with any requirements on his end.
Ask yourself, would you rather have a negative feedback, or worry about the sale and possibly lose $1500?
Ouch to many red flags for me and I do not have the coin. I would just issue a refund and relist it with previous feedback required . That is way to much of a gamble.... Thats a tough one.....
You should go into The EBay transaction and get the guys phone number. Then you call him and tell him what your concerns are. If he is legit, he will understand. Then offer him a small discount if he will allow you to cancel the payment and arrange for payment via cashiers check or wire transfer. Last year, I sold a 1999 w/ W $5 American Eagle NGC MS70 on Ebay for $2800 using the make an offer feature. I checked the buyers feedback and his account had been dormant for several years. I immediately panicked, I called him and asked him if he could do a wire transfer. He asked me to call him back later so that he old think about it. He called me back, I discounted the coin by $25 to account for the wire transfer fee that he would have to pay. He wired the funds the same day and we left each other good feedback. He's in Florida and im in Calfornia. As a full time dealer, he and I speak regularly about doing deals. It all worked out in the end, just good old fashioned communication.
Unless you get payment in cash, payment isn't worth counting on. I sold an item once and it was 'paid' via cc, which was ok with me. I shipped the item and about 3 weeks later I got a notice from paypal/ebay saying they took the money back from me (from my account). When I tried to tell them that I shipped it and all, they didn't care. They told me that whoever paid me was not authorized to use the card and it had been reported as either stolen or an unauthorized purchase. They wouldn't even look into it as far as finding out if it was delivered to the person's address who had the card. So I was out for about 30 or so dollars and I did not get the item back. Ebay had no concern about the item. Don't ship this. You won't win with ebay if it goes south (and I think it will). You are much better off with a negative from Ebay than to lose on this.
Not a good idea to change your userid right after you buy a $1500 coin. I would contact him and eBay and express concern given the recent hacking issue at eBay. Document all correspondence. If this helps assuage your concerns and he has paid, I would go then probably through with it. Buyers have to start somewhere, and this is a big score for you. Good luck! TC
I would contact Ebay first and explain the situation, the user ID change BEFORE you ship anything. Get their input first and if you do ship. make sure you send it signature required!!!
