This was a score I made at CSNS. I was walking buy a dealers table and I saw this among no other error coins. He asked $500 and I happily paid him. I'd guess it's probably owrth around double that once I get it certified.
It looks like part of the buffalos tail is actually off the coin so I will agree, off-center. Took me awhile to decide if it was off-center or an uncentered broadstrike.
That was my assessment as well. Just that little bit of design is missing... but it was enough for me.
Very nice, but, is it really 10%? I would guess less. 5% http://coins.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleNo=384&lotNo=6401 5% http://coins.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleNo=384&lotNo=6407 10% http://coins.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleNo=1182&lotNo=8901
Real neat piece, and has a lot going for it. Other little pieces I noticed: abraded die that eliminated the designer initials and there are traces of a Typical Die Clash. Can be best seen in the EPU of the reverse and traces of EPU underneath the Indian's chin. This is classified as TDC-5c-1935-01 on maddieclashes.com.
NGC logged this guy as 10% off center today and it's in quality control... hopefully the grade will come through today.
If it comes through as 10%, I believe you'll have a coin error and a grading error... http://www.ebay.com/itm/1919-NGC-MS65-Buffalo-Nickel-10-Off-Center-/141171643590
Very interesting. Don't see to many errors on Buffalo Nickels. At a recent coin show, a man had a buffalo nickel struck on a 1C planchet!
WOW! That's unbelievable. GDJMSP doesn't even have to preach here, I'm slowly starting to believe in the noticeable drop of grading standards, accuracy and consistency. Congrats to the future slab owner. I would recommend looking at a few, before buying this one as a 10% example.
