I love these coins but many seem over- priced at high-40s or even low-50s. What gives here?

Are you talking $40 and $50?
    What grade of coins?

If you are getting a solid 63 for $40, I'd buy one. Numismedia Price Guide, which is usually the lowest of the price guides, doesn't even list 1 in that price range.

I agree and I would jump on $40 but eBay range is $48 to $53ish which I think is excessive considering amt. silver and number out there.

I can see $50 on something that looks really nice.

I've set my upper limit at 48 but I'll move it to 50, thanks!

They seem overpriced to me in any grade because I grew up in a time when I could pull them out of my pocket.

Well they did quite making them 50+ years ago.o_O
Disclosure I find this evident of lack of knowledge as you will never find some of them at that price. Heck I don't have one that I paid that little for.

You refer to the amount of silver. If you are just thinking of bullion content, then I agree with you. However, most collectors I know that buy MS graded coins are not collecting them for bullion value. True, there are many out there but it is a finite number. If you are using the original mintage figures, they are in reality way off as many were melted. The mintage figures do not account for the melt.

Here is an eye popping stat for you. At current market values, a short set, 1941-1947, in MS65 cost is in the $4000 range, for nice strikes. In 1986 that same set sold for $17,500.

I have a bunch of these, and I think they are beautiful and affordable. Most all of mine are CAC approved as well. I think for $100 you can get a fantastic graded coin with CAC sticker.

I just clicked on your banner. That 44 Walker is a great looking coin.
