I just wanted to share this Ebay auction with all of you. The Trade Dollar is obviously a fake. The seller has "0" feedback. The auction has 4+ days to go with a good amount of bids already. Auction #290079245120. Ive included the pics of this coin. Tell me what you think.

Were these even minted before 1873?

LOL - I was thinking the same thing. Watch the seller come back with some comment about it being a early proof to test production.

Thats good. I also reported the auction to Ebay so hopefully they pull it before the next sucker...uh..I mean bidder gets burned with a fake $200 coin.

That's the wide rim, soapy color and cast surface directly from the CFRC* Mint that I mentioned in the thread about a 1797 "Trade Dollar".

I see now what you mean by the soapy color. I've been looking out for coins like this on Ebay and have been reporting them all. I know I wouldnt want to get ripped off by purchasing a fake coin, I wouldnt want anyone else to either, But, on the other hand, if these bidders knew what they were doing they wouldnt have to worry about being ripped off.

I wonder how high this auction will get. It is an obvious fake, without looking at the 1872 date. I just reported it to ebay as well.
