two more I can cross off my list... "Jital" i've been wanting a bull and horseman jital where you can see all the bull and horseman, so i picked up this one... 9th century saffarid bull and horseman AR jital o: zebu recumbent, sri khudarayaka above (in sarada) r: mounted horseman, "just" in right field (arabic) 20 mm, 2.9 g and "Jovian" didn't have a jovian, has a very nice obverse portrait. jovian 363-364 ad o: dn iovian vs pf avg r: vot v heracb in ex. ric viii heraclea 108 20 mm, 3.3 g 20
Nice bull and Horseman ! And fairly scarce this one. I showed a Khudarayaka Jital on a thread not long ago. That was type Tye#22. Yours is Tye#23.
I know absolutely nothing about the first coin, but the Jovian is "sweet" as Steve might say. Here is my only Jovian: JOVIAN AE3 OBVERSE: DN IOVIA-NVS P F AVG, pearl-diademed, draped, & cuirassed bust right REVERSE: VOT V MVLT X in four lines across field within wreath; BSIRM Struck at Sirmium 363-4 AD 3.0g, 20mm RIC 118b
Doug has a page on to Bull coins. They're cheap but finding one with respectable centering is tough, so I have read. Both are great coins. Jovian is an emperor I have been lazy to buy.
thanks all ( and thanks TJC...I missed the type in my attribution)! both have been on my list for months. as I get more coins on my list...i've noticed my list isn't really getting any shorter.
Great new additions, coin dude!! (both are in great shape) ... Sadly, I don't have an example of either of 'em (*sigh*) I love the ol' Jital (nice abstract animal coin ... very cool) congrats!!
While overall a nice specimen for these, this jital is exceptionally strong in the character right of the rider and above the horse's head which is what separates it from similar numbers as pointed out by THCoins. I'd call this a one in a thousand specimen (but that might not be doing it justice).
Nice coins Chris. Here's my Jital. As Mat points out, the strike and centering on these coins are all over the place. You really need a handful of them to represent the various types... Nezak Huns, Spalapati Deva AR Jital, AD 750-850 Obv.: Horseman right holding lance. Rev.: Bull left, Sarada script. Reference: Tye 5.
Jovian looks a little shocked on the coin. Like he just received some 'wtf' news. I just imagine him saying 'The Persians are doing what?!?!?' I also find the jital interesting. I unfortunately don't know anything about it though. Time to do some reading I think.
