I have to agree but that is an odd one for sure. How can it be damaged only in that area? It had to be purposeful maybe?
Yeah it is odd and I was thinking pmd. Think its time to trade my old coins in for some new ones at the bank haha
So after all it isnt pmd but was caused by grease in the die! Even if not worth anything its still a cool find.
No offense, but who said grease-filled die? A grease-filled die would prevent a full strike of the coin and you would see detail missing. This one looks like it was damaged.
Sent pics n info to heritage auction and thats what they said. also How could center of the damage A be off that much compared to the other A?
I also recently got a error penny from gas station. 1991 thats missing LI in liberty and light shadow with last number on date (1). I new to this but its very interesting.
But a grease filled die looks nothing like the coin you have. This is what a minor struck through grease looks like. The grease becomes stuck in the die and prevents a full strike of the coin, it doesn't rearrange the metal on the coin. http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/uploaded/eddio/20131018_IMG-20131017-05318.jpg
Who knows. Maybe its just a one of a kind. Idk but just saying what they said is it was caused by grease in die. Thing that has me stumped is the center being off n as deep as it is.
sorry was in hurry cause im doing price check to see how much rims are worth on this 66 imperial crown im buying. here u go. ( LI and the last 1 is only a shadow)
