Dont have a clue on what to do??

I went through some circles on these two (same?) sellers lot listings. Asked for bid retractions, cant be selling the same coin to everyone, check it out.

This is interesting. Both of the sellers seem legit, but that is without question the same coin pictured in each auction. I am highly confused.

 

No big mystery.
One seller is just using the picture as an example of what he is selling.

You can never assume that you are bidding on what's in the picture.
The seller must specifically state that the picture is of the item being auctioned, for you to take that as a given.

 

My guess is that one of the sellers stole the other one's photos.

I'm sending both sellers the following message (using a throwaway EBay ID): "Are you the victim of photo theft? I can't see any difference in the photos in auction Nos. 330083312560 and 2700883867749. If it's your photos, being stolen I suggest you notify EBay so they can kill the other phony auction."

I'll post any replies I receive.

 

This is an aspect of eBay that never ceases to amaze me. It should be the most obvious thing in the world that the picture represents the item, but there you go. I look for that statement every time when reading the item description.

 

The posting of other's pictures is totally bogus, and one of them is fake.

ebay just sent me a note saying that, numismaticcoinbroker, is no longer a registared user. Does that mean they gave them the boot? Maybe they were taking the photos from the other seller, coin_carolina.

Click on the top link on the first thread, yourll see it there too. I emailed them saying I do not want to pay for the coin. Any opinions on what I should do if I do not get a response?

 

Yea, it appears that he got the boot. But just like estatedoctor, he'll come back reincarnated as another seller with a new ID with the same coins and the same scams.

 

Well they cannot leave you any feedback, at this moment anyway. How odd this is. Both big feedback sellers, both 99.8 positive. Both stories sound tainted with malarkey!
Coin Carolina does have a stock photo disclaimer on their site and may not have that pictured coin any longer. I suppose the other company could have bought the coin from them and then offered it for sale.
eBay may have shot first and will ask questions later in this case and could reinstate numismaticcoinbroker.
At the moment I do not suppose he can even send you an invoice via eBay anyway.

Roy,there's far too many idiots on eBay that are stealing other people's photos.It goes to show that the higher ups in eBay really don't care about what is going on as far as fighting fraud goes,including unscrupulous people ripping off an innocent party's photos.If I was a trader on eBay,I wouldn't stoop as low as they go.

Picture Theft

Hello to all!

I just stumbled upon this thread and thought a response would be helpful.

The seller mentioned was stealing our pictures and I presume eBay kicked him off for that reason. You can never really know because they won't tell you anything specific about another user.

We made a decision years ago to take representative pictures of each coin, and to sell by grade. This process took us 6 months to complete and continues. Most are comfortable with this, and it those who we serve best.

As a side note, I love the hobby and serving avid collectors. edited to conform to forum rules

To Carolina coins, It's good to see you found us. we try to stick up for the good guys and prevent phoney auctions and the like. I thought it was e-bay policy to use photos of the actual coin listed?

 

Well, I have been a buyer on ebay for a years and recently decided to delve into selling! I saw coins I had selling for $150.00 and my auctions ended at $30 at best. Well, not researching the rules I went ahead and copied someone else's auction with slight modifications. The other seller contacted me, 4 or 5 emails within a ten minute period threatning to report me to ebay, then asking me to refrain from this in the future, then to try to understand his point, and finally to I've reported you.
I changed all my listing except one that had a bid and sent the other member an apology and asked if he wanted me to pull down the other auction that had a bid but got no reply. Well days later ebay sends out a notice that 3 of my auctions are null and void for description theft (which I admitted to the other member). Now I was totally wrong and fessed up to it and will not do this again, but my problem is the buyers that get the same notice haven't a clue what is going on. They won the auction, paid for the item and item has been mailed and in some cases recieved. This has happened to me on the buying end as well! My only gripe is ebay should be more open with the buyers as to what transpired. Luckly my buyers paid via PayPal and I had email addresses to contact them and let them know what happened and apologize to them as well.
I realize there are a lot of dishonnest people doing this purposely but there are others like myself that were just ignorant and when enlightned will not let it happen again.

 

I do not understand. This fellow gets naru’ed the next day when he has good feedback and only stole one picture (I assume). The one I found stole 2 pictures from 2 different listers both of whom told me they turned him in (his listings were pulled, anyway), his feedback is <95%, but he is still active. What gives?

I'm not sure I understand. Let's say you are offering an MS60 1881CC Morgan. Would you use

• A photo of the exact coin you are selling
• a photo of any MS60 1881CC Morgan
• a photo of any 1881CC Morgan regardless of grade
• photos of the obverse of any 1881 Morgan and the reverse of any CC Morgan
• something else?

 

This is how I read it. I would think that the serious collector would not like this much? I think the majority of collectors (one's not so educated like me) could not tell you exactly what MS 60 means. I would know the difference between the coin pictured and the coin received if they were not very close to the same. I guess if his listing explains it in a way that the buyer understands, then everyone is happy???

 

Speaking of estatedoctor, has she been reincarnated on ebay yet as another user, or is she off for good?

 

I don't believe anyone has identified a new ID as being hers, but I'll give 8 to 5, and half your money back if you lose, that she is, or soon will be, baaaaaaaack.
