I edited my comment to change my comment. Yes, that's my lil' girl. Originally wanted another boy but I was instantly smitten when she was born. :)

Do you bid on coins on eBay listed by sellers you do not know? I, for one, am a life member of the ANA and have sold just three items through CT, all silver bullion to one other member who was very pleased with his purchase.

    doug444 STAMPS and POSTCARDS too!

And I forgave TaborTot22, and I decided to hire a poll dancer :woot: before I design any more polls.

I voted "Other reason" because I have yet to find anything I am currently buying for my collection posted for sale.

Ed, I've just got a problem with folks on this forum that I don't know. The fly by night guy that gets 10 posts ( and he's only interested in getting 10 posts so he can sell something here) scares me so I shy away. Too many horror stories and the stories have been documented in some older threads. Just playin' it safe. As for my e-bay friends, I seldom tread there for coin purchases.

I think the rules kill it as a marketplace.

For one thing, you can only post once a week. That doesn't work for people who get new coins in everyday. Those guys need to move product, so they aren't going to wait six days to list. So that eliminates the people who buy a lot of coins and bullion and would be able to offer low prices (due to their volume).

You also cannot update your listings. That makes your listings look static and unattractive (for example, you see that there have been 200 page views, but nothing has been crossed off as sold).

I'm not criticizing, I think CT just doesn't really want to have a vibrant marketplace on its site, which is fine. It seem to be viewed as something they don't want too much of, but they'll tolerate us listing a few items now and then.

From the buyers side, it seems like many sellers ask full ebay prices. For that I might as well just go to ebay. And CT doesn't have a feedback system; other forums with more active buying and selling do.

It costs like $20 to become a supporter. Anyone thinking of selling more than once a week should become a supporter. Then you can make as many postings as you want in the 'For Sale' section.

Seems like it would be worth it if you expected to sell something every day or every other day.

I look at the lists daily, but very seldom see what I'm trying to buy. That's okay, though, because you just never know when something might pop up!

I read the "For Sale" section all the time. What bugs me is that a decent percentage of the posts in that area are simply links to eBay listings. If I wanted to know about auctions, I would read the Auctions section. I expect the "For Sale" section to contain listings of items for sale via CT only.

That being said, I've purchased several items from various members here and had nothing but great experiences.

It not because of a desire to keep anything secret, nor is it because of a fear of flame wars. In fact, at one time we did allow responses there, and we allowed OPs to edit their posts too.

But, we do not any responses there any longer for one very simple reason - because so many people cheat in an effort to break the rules.

Now I think that is just downright sad that people can't obey the rules, but that IS the reason.

Yeah, but it's free. Peter created it for CT members, not because he wants it, it doesn't benefit him any. In fact it does the opposite because we have to spend time moderating the section. Almost daily somebody is trying to break the rules in that section.

And as said, become a CT Supporter and you can post there as often as you want. It cost $29 a year.

    1. You limit yourself by not selling US coins to Canada.

    2. I have been buying, swapping and selling(1 sale) coins through CT since I joined.

    3. I have found several individuals to transact with in my buying, swapping and selling.

In other words, from my perspective, the only issues I've encountered on lower priced items that interest me, are the words, "Shipped ONLY to the United States.".

I guess the poll is pointless. Just so you know, I've liked a couple of your for sale offers and that you can see under your for sale post. Then, instead of responding, I returned to the sources I know will ship north of the border, and that is where my last $50 on two transactions went to.

I check it out occasionally, but apparently have not yet met the criteria for access. When I get there, I may buy a few things.

I have always encouraged the use of the for sale section here. And I've both sold and bought here. I think one must look at the economy, even though the propaganda says we all are doing better, many are not.
I recently set up at 2 coin shows. Foot traffic was down from years past; sales too.
    The market isn't that hot.

That is sad, for sure! Maybe Peter should increase the number of posts required from 10 to 1,000 before allowing listings in the B/S/T's? It might keep more of the scumbags from joining.
