Baseball HOF coins revisited

Discussion in 'Coin Chat' started by TopcatCoin, May 13, 2014.

  1. We have not been talking about these coins enough lately...lol :) :rage: Due to shipping delays, prices have skyrocketed on eBay. These prices will of course moderate once the US Mint actually starts to ship these coins again. :D

However, there may be continued interest in them over time if the HOF, MLB and others (TPGs for example) help to promote...

    • Former MLB player Goose Gossage will be in Denver to promote the HOF coins:

    http://www.usatoday.com/story/sport...-promote-hall-of-fame-coin-in-denver/9029945/

    • The 2014 HOF induction will be at the end of July (great opportunity to promote):

    http://baseballhall.org/hofweekend

    • The US Mint will also release a young collector set later this year (maybe during Little League World Series, All Star Game, World Series).

So, there are a lot of potential upcoming events to keep attention on these coins. This could bode well for future value even if the clad version is the only type that remains available from the US Mint. I usually do not say this often about coins, but these may have some staying power. TC

Really? We want more info! What coins will be involved? Will there be more than the "official" limits?

I hope these will be coming from the 750K that are authorized. I don't want them going over the "exclusive" total like they did the 2011 Eagle.

Are the prices skyrocketing due to the shipping delays or the demand?

Point being, what's to stop those that purchased on ebay at a premium from setting a progressively higher price point on a subsequent resale?

  7. Tough to tell for sure, but probably both. I am guessing that many people waiting for orders to ship from the mint are flippers, and that eBay will be inundated with supply when shipping starts up again. It will be interesting to see how far down prices will go once shipping starts. It may depend upon whether or not shipping occurs all at once or is spread out over a few months. I am amazed at what people are willing to pay for these coins, especially the fancy labels. I think some of the demand on eBay is also due to people who are unsure of their order status at the mint.

I was down right dumb to place so many smaller orders instead of one big one, but I think having several might give a better look at the Mint's shipping process. Of course the dates will change, but they haven't for a while now, so these could be fairly accurate.

I think when the gold coins hit Ebay they will drop of course. When the flipping is over the gold coins will be in the collectors hands. I think they will see a healthy rise in value but never the $1200+ that they are going for now. I hope I'm wrong.

After the FLIP, I say they climb back to $850, raw. I like the chances of the uncirculated, 18,000 to 32,000 minted. Huge demand for these coins.

It's possible that there are some deep wallets out there trying to corner the market by buying up all the golds at $1200 and under. Any profit is still a profit, so as long as there is demand out there for the product. This is a hugely hyped coin with a wide audience. I'm optimistic.

I hope you're right Chief. I only bought the unc's.........

  12. I agree that the gold uncirculated will be the big winner due to limited mintage.

Also, there is a rumor going around that the mint is having some difficulty producing these curved coins. This could mean that we may see some errors.

It is interesting that I received an email yesterday that my uncirclated dollar shipped.
Also my credit card was charged for it.

I have already received the proof dollar, so the uncirculated dollar will complete my order.

    :)

What was the date/time of your uncirculated dollar order? I'm trying to gauge when to expect mine :)

Silver proof 1$ have been stable to falling a bit on auction sites. NGC hit the streets first with Pf 70 and 69. And prices were crazy at first. PCGS just now releasing graded coins. There will be an initial rush for these coins as some prefer Pcgs, but I think prices will not settle out till mid summer. Gold BHOF will be best long term investment IMHO. Million dollar baseball players will all want some,

Unless the return is less than the rate of inflation, in that case the "profit" is actually a loss.

Not too much inflation going on if it's a quick flip but I get your meaning :)
