In browsing through our CT "selling" thread, out of the current 20 items or groups (with several dozen separate lots) offered, at this point in time there are exactly ZERO replies. This surprising fact made me think of a poll = why aren't coins selling on CT?
If the Mods think votes should not be publicly visible (I wasn't sure what to put), please edit the poll.
I gots no problem with the public poll. In answer to the question though, currently there is not much there that I want and if I do see something that might strike my fancy, I pass because I don't know the seller.
I look all the time and would gladly buy on CT. Unfortunately, it's rare that the series of coin that I collect (at the proper grade) comes up for sale. On the other hand, I've sold on CT and been happy with every transaction.
I dont think you can 'reply' to those threads without some sort of special privilege. I imagine alot more happens behind the scenes over there
I think you're right, because a long time ago, I tried! But when you PM someone, does that show up as a reply? If you're right, and you may well be, then the poll is pointless... edit//// Looked down 5 or 6 pages previous, you're right, ZERO replies! Duh. First poll = FAIL
I stopped looking in the "for sale" section because the items offered always seemed to be the drudges. Probably missed out on some great deals though! Let's get some exciting stuff in there! I'll list a few things just for variety =-)
I know how it works, but I don't think the OP does. He was noting how there aren't any replies to the posts and is saying that it's dead over there. Well you CANT reply and have to handle the transaction via private message, so it would appear dead if viewing it like the rest of the boards. I check the 'for sale' thread almost daily and have landed a deal or two and bought a couple of good coins. I always check the 'want' ads too, ya never know what you have that someone else wants or needs.
To be perfectly honest, I'm not in a position to be buying anything, but I do check out many of the posts out of curiosity. One of the things I don't particularly like about the format here is that you cannot respond directly in the forum. Why is it necessary to keep everything so secret? I like the format used on the NGC "Marketplace" because you can post responses there, and sometimes this can benefit, both, the seller and others viewing the thread. There have been numerous occasions when I've noticed unintentional errors, poor photos or whatever, and I think it's this kind of information that should also be made available to any prospective buyer. Don't get me wrong. This is, in no way, intended to make the seller look bad, but meant to allow prospective buyers every opportunity to make an informed decision. I don't know why Peter prefers it to be this way. Maybe he is concerned that some "flame wars" might erupt, but if it's good enough for eBay, why shouldn't it be good enough for us. Chris
Al, you're right, but in any case, the poll is still good in the sense that everyone can express reasons they don't buy (regardless of actual sales we never see), so go ahead and answer, for the benefit of all the Sellers.
As a buyer, I look at the For Sale section when I can. When I find something that I like, I contact the seller. However, as other members have said, it's hard to find something that's both a great deal and something I'm interested in.
No need to be snarky. I apologized for the confusion, and encouraged members to continue to post reasons why they don't buy coins, acknowledging that some DO buy coins... All sellers, even you, will benefit from the various members' comments.
I had put a snarky remark three posts up but I hadn't read the comments before I commented. It's on me. Sorry Doug.
