Somebody At Work Bought One For His Friend. Ms-70 Graded By Anacs. But My Coworker Says It Was Off-center, The Rim Was Off-center. So How Could Anacs Give It A 70? Only Thing I Can Think Is, Is Anacs Overgraded It For A Volume Customer. The Coin Was Numbered 1 Of 1500. It Came From A Dealer Who Sent 1500 To Anacs For Grading.

    1) I don't personally think there's any reason an off-center coin shouldn't theoretically be graded 70 simply on the basis of being off-center, if the struck portion were at that theoretical level of perfection.

    2) I doubt the coin you're talking about is off center. That would be a major error coin for this series. What does it look like? Without seeing it, I'm going to guess that the rim is a little bit thicker or narrower on one side, and it's a slightly misaligned die.

    3) It could very well otherwise be overgraded. However, the average quality of these is extremely high, and most of them are at the upper end of the grading scale. A good reason to buy a raw piece, if you're just looking for a nice coin. Use the extra money to get more coins!

Actually there is a reason, for a coin to reach the ultra grades it must be well centered and the planchet quality must be as good as it gets. After that, everything else comes into play.
