Always risky buying in an area where your knowledge isn't strong but took a chance on this. A few dings here and there but it is what it is.
I always liked the design of this series. Details look nice, VF/EF. Those gouges on the reverse are gnarly; it certainly wouldn't grade. At the very least, it has been dipped at some point during its life. A lot of Bust Half collectors will tell you that is just how it is--this series is dipped a lot. If you don't mind me asking, how much did you drop on this?
Too bad about the damage as it clearly has AU details. personally, and this is just my own opinion worth exactly .02, I would have spent the same money on a lower grade example with original surfaces and minus the gouges.
hopefully get some knowledge, learn about photo copy images, and you'll be ready for the next 1, but still a very nice example
I doubt I'll lose money on it but maybe not make much............just got back from visiting a sellers house.........bought a 1980 proof half sovereign and threw in hundreds of low value coins in with it for nothing.......oh and Walker Half 1943 nice shape, 1934 and 1935 quarters, 1936 buffalo nickel, 1935 and 1941 10c......1949 GB key date brass threepence, Russia 10 Kopeks 1921, Australian silver threepence 1910........
It's the 1836/1336 overdate. O-108. Common, but the overdates usually bring a premium. See the lower ball of the "3" inside the lower loop of the "8" in the date?
Slabbed 1836 CBH's in XF start at $180 on eBay. I am with ksparrow and would have bought a problem-free example, even if the grade is slightly lower.
