I have a 1825 gold sovereign, laureate head XF45. What is the value of it?? Should I sell it thru an auction, to a company (i.e. http://www.goldsovereigns.co.uk) or direct to a buyer?? Thanx Hanz
Looks like there is one up for auction in XF45 right now that is currently bid up to $2500 with a day left on the auction. http://www.ebay.com/itm/KEY-DATE-18...UK_Coins_BritishMilled_RL&hash=item19ec7d901e
Well it's a very rare coin. If you have good feedback on Ebay then go ahead and list it. Does yours look better than the one being sold? I would be hesitant to list it on Ebay if it's your first sale though. It really depends what offers you've received privately already.
Thanks, Hanz; I've lived in Clearwater and Jacksonville. In my opinion, this is a coin that MUST be graded (if not already) if you plan to sell it yourself. I like fretboard's comments about not putting the coin on U.S. eBay unless you are experienced, plus your best buyer(s) are likely to be in the U.K. Consigning the coin to someone like Stack's (for one of their international sales) costs you about 25% (10% commission + 15% buyer's fee), but also provides the benefit that they handle ALL the problems and insurance and shipping, plus a superb presentation in one of their catalogs, and the possibility of finding a buyer who collects by date and needs that specific coin, living somewhere you would NEVER ship. That is what I did with my few valuable foreign coins in 2012. Regarding Florida, there may be a big coin show coming up where you could submit the coin directly to a TPG, which saves time and money. If you lived in, say, Wyoming, that would be unlikely. I admit, this is a tough decision. Good luck.
