That is exactly what I thought after seeing the photographs. Since they are the real thing, this will cause lots of confusion. I wonder how the TPG's will label and identify them. Is the Philly Mint doing the same? Just imagine, perfectly matched error coins from two separate mints. That will draw big bucks on eBay.
I picked up this recently because of a writeup at http://www.cointalk.com/threads/trivia-civil-wqar-tokens.230292/ that talked about these specifically. The assertion that these were the cause of 1864 legislation against private coinage seemed unlikely to me even after finding that Wikipedia had the same story. I wrote up my concerns on my blog ( http://coins.aplawrence.com/2014/05/civil-war-tokens-story-that-cannot-be.html) and after I posted I found this article which shared all my doubts and more: http://www.cwtsociety.com/AOTM/http://www.cwtsociety.com/AOTM/ Still an interesting coin even if the stories are apocryphal.
Great train hobo dwhiz. I assume the mark on the buffalo's hip is the artists initials. Do you know who he is? Thanks. Bruce
The PRR & Reading RR had locomotives that were labeled T1s. The photo of the #2101 Reading T1 I took in May of 1977 The photo of "Chessie Steam Special" was taken as it was passing under the Walnut St. bridge in Philadelphia
No great shakes, but I'm still poking away at my small cent type set. I bought a few 2009 mint sets for the SMS bicentennial cents. Cut a few of them apart for albums and kept the rest intact. These 2009 SMS issues are some of my favorites in the Lincoln series. I appreciate that the mint struck them in good old-fashioned bronze, and I'm also impressed with their aesthetic cohesion, as the reverses were created by four different designers. Like I said, no big deal, but I like them immensely... I also ordered this 43 zinc-steel cent. PCGS gave it a 66. These are the seller's images, but I think it should look quite good in hand.
Just some cheap coins I picked up at the coin store when I went to buy some airtites. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
