Tonight I finished writing my pages on my 99 and 1/2 favorite ancient coins. I now start on the proofreading. That is always the hard part. I can not post the pages until the last coin arrives (I hope the post office does not like it enough to keep it). Who knows me well enough to know what coin type is missing from the image below that I would have to include in my list of favorites?

The next question is how long this list of coins will last without my getting a coin that has to bump one of these and which one will be first to get the ax??? I have not been able to convince myself that I'm capable of placing them in an order even close to ranking them properly. I obviously change my mind too often for that. More of a concern is which coin I own was forgotten. I have many coins I like that are not shown. After that we have to wonder if coins that did not make the list are really needed after all.

Have you given thought to which of your coins are your favorites? It is hard.

Some cool coins on your pics of favorites. Bit small resolution wise though.

Remember I did my favorites thread about 2 years ago. Since then a few have gone to better homes and some new favorites have been added. I will do another in time.

I didnt find it too hard to do though. But I dont have thousands of coins like some here.

Here are nine of my favorites at the moment. I'm still missing four for a portrait set of the Olympians.

Of this group I think my favorite is Dionysos from Kallatis.

From time to time I've tried to rank my favorites. After the one clear 1st place coin (Agathokles tet) and the 2nd and 3rd place finishers (Corinth stater, Nero sestertius), the next ten or thirty get murky and change often.

Here are today's top 10 12 15 18 favorites. Sheesh, it's hard to end the list! I feel bad about the ones left out.

... Doug, you mentioned that you'd finished writing all of your coin-pages

=> so you have info on each coin? (how does the viewer access this info for each of your 100 awesome coins?)

This must be one of those mixed lots with no photos & brief description like "lot of 18 unsearched ancient coins including some bronze & silver". :D

I'm having trouble imagining a dealer putting up a mixed lot of 18 that includes a couple of those coins but it is still a nice lot. There are even a half dozen I would put in my 99. The major category you lack that I like are the technical coins but I am glad not to have the competition for them.

So wrong, so very wrong. There are seven fourrees on that page already and most people would say that is eight too many.

The photo is taken from my favs page which has not yet been linked to my homepage. I'm still proofreading it but will post it when coin #4 arrives and the photo is complete. On the site, the image is mapped so clicking on the coin takes you to a page with big photos of both sides and some supporting coins that make sense to show with the prime coin. I borrowed this idea from Harlan Berk's 100 Greatest book which shows supporting coins for many of his primes (he shows 30 additional Croesids for that one listing!).

What coin are you missing? The easy guess would be a Severan denarius, Julia domna maybe?Maybe your AE of Caracalla.

As for which coins are my favorites? The easiest answer would be look the coins in my gallery. 80%-90% are my favorites My top favorites change often. Heres a few
