Thanks. I went to the one in North Dallas on Thursday the 25th. Got a picture with myself and my daughter with George Washington!:hail:
I see the mint is releasing the presidential proof Set on or about feb. 15th. Is this the entire first year or just George.
Also any truth to the rumor of the Silver Presidential Proof sets? I sadly doubt it... (hoping I'm wrong I keep hearing about it, but I'm not seeing any reputable links or articles...
All the press releases have indicated staged release similar to the State Quarter program, and no proofs. Are you sure that there is going to be a release of all four at the same time, and are you saying that there will be proofs? I know you have posted a lot of very accurate information about Mint plans and practices, but so far as I know this is the first time you have directly contradicted press releases.
the mint will be selling a collector's version and that's what ND86 is talking about. the general coins will come out in a phased manner.
You can order the state quarter four piece proof set already from the mint. the state quarters are availiable in both proofs and their silver proofs versions. The mint is expected to release the presidential coins in mid feb. I was curious if it would be all 4 or them or just 1 but it seems it will be all 4 of them much as they are doing the state quarters. At this time it seems it seems the presidential coins will available as a proof set, but not a silver proof. I think it will be a shame if they do not do a silver version of the presidential coin set. To me if they did not do it the first year then they will probably not do it for the entire series. I mean what would be the point if you do not have the first year issue in silver . Shame Shame. only way i may be able to get the presidential coins would be directly from the mint as I have not found a bank in my area that even knows these coins will be available
i think the mint is makeing a big mistake by not figureing out how to do the presidents in silver for the first year set . i really would like to have it.
Outlaw, It's not that they couldn't "figure it out" The problem is that legislation has to be passed by Congress so they can mint the coins on silver, instead of the regular alloy.
Some info about that is now available from the US Mint's website: http://www.usmint.gov/pressroom/index.cfm?action=press_release&ID=740 Pittsburgh, Pa.,Thursday, Feb. 1 Galleria at Pittsburgh Mills, 1-3 p.m., 590 Pittsburgh Mills Cir., Tarentum, PA 15084 Christian
I guess I was confusing "proof set" with "silver proofs", and release of complete proof sets with release of circulating coins. As I now understand it, the individual busines strike coins will be released at approximately three-month intervals, but the clad proofs with S mintmarks will all be released in an early set. That's basically the same pattern followed on the State Quarters.
Can somebody please take a GOOD-Quality close-up picture of one and post it here ? I need the picture for a letter I'w wrting to my Senator. Thanks.
I went to this preview showing in Boston on Monday. I got there early and Kevin Hamer, Deputy Associate Director of Sales and Marketing, came up to me, introduced himself and spent a good fiften minutes of his valuable time actively soliciting my questions and patiently listening to my concerns and complaints. It was well worth the trip into the city. If you have the opportunity I highly reccommend attending one of these.
The image pressroom on the Mint's website has high resolution images of the actual coins now. I hope that helps.
Thanks, I saw those. But I don't think those are untouched photos of actual coins. I think they are heavily "photoshopped".
As for silver versions, my only question is, why? In the case of the silver proof quarters, the silver coins are of the same color as the business strikes, and there is an historical connection because quarters used to be made of silver. In the case of dollar coins (goden ones, anyway), neither condition exists, not to mention the lack of legislative authority to mint them in anything other than standard metal. As for proof sets, will they be included in the standard proof sets, or only sold as a 4 coin set? Will the Sac be in the normal proof/unc sets? Will the mint also sell unc sets of Prez dollars?
