I'm sorry if this is a double post, but I found it interesting:

ANS Announces New Digitization Program for Roman Coins

    "Published on Apr 21, 2014
Giles Bransbourg, Adjunct Curator of Roman Coins, American Numismatic Society, Moderator: Harlan Berk.
A new program to digitize the Roman coins in the ANS Collection will begin later this year. Giles Bransbourg explains the how the program will work and how scholars and collectors will benefit from the information that will become available."

This will be another interesting resource.

Did I miss it or is this entirely without illustrations?

I think you have to click the Browse button. Lots of images of coins there.

The ANS site is still a "work in progress."

The difficulty of this challenge makes me appreciate the wildwinds.com site even more.

I prefer wildwinds too and if it has nothing, I use coin project.

I see that if you want Augustus, there are many images. I was interested in Pescennius Niger when I read this thread so I searched for him and found many listings copied from the BMC but no coins. The statement that it is ready through Caracalla is a bit premature. Being ready through the fifth century might take a century.
