I always loved this design and I wanted one that was mint. Well that was until I saw the prices. So I finally came accross one in my price range, nothing special but I have one to look at in person now and not the AG/G ones I have that are junk silver. I think it was advertised as AU...I am not sure I can get it to grade XF45 but I know there are experts in here so what say you?

It very well could have been dipped. I just wanted one were I could see the details. It was one of the most beautiful designs but did not wear well. It is just a coin that I have and like.

    Coin looks cleaned IMO.

These are not much better, I agree it might be cleaned. I was wondering what wear it had. I know it is not AU but I do not know these well.

Head and shield details were quite often lacking on the obverse. Feathers on the body of the eagle were an issue on the reverse also. Your coin would grade XF at best technically. So, for what you wanted in a Standing Liberty quarter this coin will serve its purpose. If you keep looking you may be able to find an original uncleaned one with better head and shield details in the same grade reasonably priced to replace this one.

Ethan, I don't know how much you can afford, but I see a lot of NGC & PCGS SLQ's in AU/MS on eBay. Some of them are listed as BIN's, but that shouldn't stop you from contacting the seller and making an offer.

Nice coin Ethan. Some good advice above.

I would say the coin has XF wear but as been harshly cleaned. I would pass on this piece as it has problems. Wait until you find a nice problem-free example in your price range. I know it's hard to pass up on one you like, but this coin has issues and when you find the right coin you will be happy you waited.

I agree with the above opinions, it definitely looks altered without original surfaces. These SLQ's have great designs and are considered by many to be the most popular U.S. quarter in the market for collectors at the moment. I enjoy them so much I will even pick up some dateless examples whenever possible.

I like it and it is good to look at when I want to see the design. No offense but it suffices for what I bought it for cleaned or not. $100 could be better spent on something else but you never know.....:)
