sorry Condor I missed your post . you said about the same thing as I did. this altered coin was easy to figure out.
incorrect, tried hammering on over 30 coin's,can't get raised letter. The rim get's flattened.also with sunk in lettering then pressing will fill the recessed letter's,hammering or pressing.Obverse show's no damage mark's,or scratch's.I tried machine press flatten's rim, surface detail,no raised lettering.O.K look at top of "S T"on main motto T has ahalf box on cross bar,S has semi loop atop of Main S(main motto) protuding Trust word has the same from the same die.as well as the U and R"now how can this be forged????? Now how could this be copied and why could it not be POSSIBLE TO BE A MINT ERROR"
Why does the top of the cross bar's and loop has matching point's as the main motto??? Just wondering would or, to say it didn't get stuck in the hub not struck by same die/has same die Marker's
This individual contacted me several days ago and I told him the coin was damaged. He's currently offering this specimen on eBay for $250 (originally $350).
I understand that you're too young to remember, but Google is your friend: type in the shown words and voila! The motto, at least to my eyes, is sans-serif.
This thing is a man made altered coin just like a lot of folks are telling you. a mint error and a damaged coin like yours is totally different and easy to recognize by someone that knows a little about coins. even Mike told you this was a damaged coin and said you had it on ebay for sale . folks on ebay are becoming smarter , if your coin was a real error it would have sold instantly.
lumhechati, I do not mean for this to be rude, but there are a few things I find very questionable about your present listings beyond the subject of this thread. -The "09-S 1C S over horizontal S" appears to show a VDB on the bust which, if true, would mean that this coin cannot be of the claimed year or variety. -The "71-D 50C FS102" looks, at least to my eyes, nothing like the actual variety. Even though the 97-D 1C was not what you hoped, you deserve some credit for trying to learn about the coin, but now that you know, it's time to remove the listing. As for the above, I don't expect you to take my opinion as fact, but do hope you take the time to confirm or deny it. If you plan to continue selling on ebay, none of these coins are worth the possible hit to your reputation as a seller. Good luck.
Not to mention the mint mark placement is a mile and a half off. No way it can be it. Now that's something I believe. Was this coin one of them?
-----If this is true about the 1909 s,i'll pull it from e-bay.my mistake.where as the 1971 d it match's the marker's on ngc web site
I do believe it to be a mint error, only beceause the word trust match's the main motto "trust",i'll just send it off to anac's,or ngc and if so be take a lose,i do thank you for your help as i do wish to only have and or be correct on trying to I.D.this/these error's.I do not wish to misrepresent as your help is very welcomed.
I tryied to match the markers stated at "NGC"website for the 1971 D ddo, please do visit their page, let me know if i'm incorrect.
You were told by Mike Diamond, the foremost error expert in the country (and perhaps the world) that your coin was damaged. Fact is, the same type of thing has been posted for years on this site, with the same answer pretty much every time...damage. The coin did not leave the mint that way.
I hate to pass judgement on most anything unless it's in hand, but the "09" is an exception. Kudos for your willingness to both discuss and admit the mistake. As for the 71-D 50C, please understand that seemingly correct markers do not automatically make a coin that variety. Again, being as I do not have it in-hand I hesitate to give you an absolute, but your photos, particularly of "IN", do not match or even appear close to that of the claimed variety. Can you please post the link?
I second that. Mike's word is the gospel when it comes to error coins. His study and experience is second to none.
