The mint mark might be in the right place, but it looks too big and wide (wrong shape). And that corroded splotch is too coincidental. I wouldn't touch it.
Ya'll may be onto something with the mintmark. I was concentrating on the date and totally missed the MM. Here is a real one for comparison.
I agree with the consensus that it is a genuine 1914 with an added "D" mintmark. I saw this on ebay as it was ending, and was immediately turned off.
