Every once in a while, I make the rounds of several local banks for half dollar rolls. Every time I've done it, I come up with nothing interesting. Until today, that is. I bought three rolls, these are my results:

    1954 Franklin
    1963 Franklin
    1964 Kennedy
    1967 Kennedy
    1969 Kennedy (2)

    Not bad, eh?

It was the first time I got half dollars from that particular bank. I'm going to go back next payday and see if a trend develops. Got my hopes up!

It's been a while. Just happened to be going by a small bank that has had good returns in the past.
They had 4 rolls on hand.
    Found:
1973P, last coin I needed for my (yet another) Whitman folder.
Two 1964 (one with great toning)
    1963-D Franklin (fair bell lines)
Again, small bank that has never moved, never changed names, small town, buy them out. This strategy has proven results.

This past week I got very lucky. I never get lucky in roll searches but do much better, as I have posted before, with loose halves in teller racks. I always ask if they have any half dollars and it doesn't happen often where they have any at all but this week was special. This week I was in a city that I go to all the time but haven't stopped at any banks before asking for halves. Here's my results of the 3 banks that had halves, loose in teller coin racks.

    BANK #1 - $8.50 (17 halves)
    ** (5) 1964
    ** (2) 1965
    ** (1) 1969
    Best haul of the day

    BANK #2 - $18.00 (36 halves)
    ** (3) 1967
    ** (2) 1968

    BANK #3 - $8.50 (17 halves)
    ** (1) 1964
    ** (1) 1987 Proof

Here's the results of bank #4 that had 10 rolls - I got $100 in clad - Not one 90% or even 40% half in 200 coins. My previous experience with rolls has always been the same. I found a bank earlier this year with 43 rolls and I bought all 43 rolls. I got nothing but clad.

    Well Cody (or Mr. Dude!!),

Remember, you're only reading about the successes. There is no mention of the rolls and rolls of nothin'!

And with people like Victor, no bank is a sure bet anymore :) (Just kidding Victor!!!!!)

Just remember, it's a cheap thrill cuz it doesn't cost anything and as long as you don't mind a few strange stares...........

I've only found one silver half. I love the strange stares and the "do you collect these" responses. :) And when i go to turn them back into another bank. "Wow you must have been saving these for a while!" "Yeah, I've been saving them for about a day. :)

I gave up half dollar roll searching a few years ago. There was a time when I was finding about one silver for about every three rolls searched. But then things dried up and after I went through countless coins without a single hit, I gave up. Probably should have started collecting Kennedy halves by date and mintmark

Found 6 silvers (1-1964, 2-1966, 3-1967) and a 2004 D out of 600 coins searched while playing video poker last weekend.

Nice finds everyone. I do a lot of half dollar searching myself. The oldest I've found is a 1935.
