I would say that coin has vg details. I cant verify the authenticity, but like every coin, its worth what someone is willing to pay.

Well the coin isn't mine. I'm a prospective buyer of a complete mercury dime set which includes the coin pictured. No 1942/1 in the set, but there is the 1945 micro s. He's asking 1400 for the set and it seems this coin alone (1916-D) would make up most of the value. Just wondering what this coin is realistically worth. I'd grade the obverse F15-VF20 and the reverse VG8-F12
That's one coin that I wouldn't buy raw, at least not without a REALLY substantial discount. It's coming up on nearly 100 years of fakery, some fairly sophisticated. I know how to look for the diagnostics, but I wouldn't trust myself at those price levels, especially from these photos.
