Charmy's CENTRAL STATES COIN SHOW Report w/Tons of Pics!!!

  1. Do you have any pictures of your exhibits from the past and the present one? If so would you mind sharing a few pictures of some? One of my favorite parts of shows is seeing the exhibits. Being a new collector I have learned a lot from these!

Awesome Charmy, its great to hear you got tables at the PNNA, i know they have a waiting list. i've help setup this show for the last 6 years, this year i'm not sure if i'm going to make it,i have family things going on. if i do come it will be early Sunday morning, will you still be there...hey i know one of the Judges, i'll put a good word in, actually Del is one of the best, no funny business..
I talked to the President of the Boeing club to get you to come out in January, he Greg S. said he talked to you and you might come, i know the Judge there to...maybe i'll see you there..

Eng, yes, I've been doing the Tukwila show for several years now and always look forward to returning. I'll be at the show all day on Sunday. I decided a few weeks ago to set up my exhibit at the Tukwila show, and I'm sure all the exhibits will be judged very fairly.

What are the dates of the Boeing show in January? I've decided not to do the Tucson show next January and if the Boeing show dates don't conflict with my other January shows, then I'd definitely like to try the Boeing show.

My table is to the left of the door up against the front wall. If you've been there, then I'm sure we've met. I love red wine, but you certainly don't have to bring me any! see you this weekend!

Besides yours Charmy, I agree with that savings bank exhibit being very interesting. Besides, I lived in Milwaukee where the savings banks were from. Do they give you any idea on how many votes each exhibit gets? It would help the individuals involved to see if there presentation is on the right track.

There are two types of judging - the first is 3 judges judge the best in each class, add up the scores, and the highest wins their class, then the 1st place winner is eligible for best in show. For ANA shows, if those three judges are more than 5 points apart for each other, then they meet and discuss the scoring and try to come closer, if they can't, then the exhibit chair gets involved. At the ANA shows, you get to see your class score sheets before the best in show judges judge the exhibits, and you can even appeal if you feel something went wrong.

For Central States, you find out what your scores are after all the awards are handed out. You don't have a chance to appeal or question what happened at any point. I had one score of 67 and one score of 91 - you can't get much further apart than that! So my judges never discussed the huge discrepancy in scores, and that score of 67 just threw me/my exhibit out of any contention for best in class and of course best in show.

Then there's the People's Choice award which is simply the public voting for their favorite exhibit in any class, and they just total up the votes for that one. There really were some great exhibits at this show.

Except for Central States, so far I have placed 1st in class and won People's Choice at every show I have exhibited, and either placed 1st runner up or won Best in Show. I'm honestly not trying to brag, but just trying to give a comparison to explain why I was so frustrated at my exhibiting experience in Central States. I feel very honored that people seem to like my exhibit because it's very personal to me - as I am sure displaying one's collection for all to see (and judge) is personal to most people. I have been collecting these pieces for years, and to have other people see them and seem to enjoy them thrills me, so to have one judge slam my exhibit, honestly, did hurt.

Anyway, while I was upset the first day, after that I put things into perspective and feel very fortunate and blessed to have gotten this far. I'm displaying my exhibit here at the Tukwila show, then the last time will be at the ANA in Chicago. Then I will put it away, and can once again concentrate on just selling my pennies at shows, and not worry about all the exhibiting ups and downs!

Looks like a great exhibit - those penny teapots are especially fascinating, I might have to find one for myself.

Charmy, I am certainly glad I got to see your display yesterday at the PNNA show before you retire it! It was wonderful to look at and much better than the pictures. I have seen it the first time you put it in a show report and have wanted to see it in person since then. I was baffled at the amount of exonumia you have included in there all done with pennies.
