Hey all, brand new member here. I posted in the Silver baseball HOF coin thread about a possible mint mark doubling I found, but wanted to run this coin by you too. I collect mainly older gold coins, and found this neat example of an 1851-O. When looking at it carefully, I noticed the date was doubled. In the PCGS info about this date, they talked about how some of this date were doubled like this. What do you think this adds to the value of the coin?
RPD's and Doubled Dies of early gold don't usually command a premium (because gold is already a premium). But these mid 19th century pieces usually exhibit some sort of recut date. I have lots of these braided hair large cents that have some funky recutting of the date.
