I have found this 2010 penny that grabbed my attention when I saw this almost perfect crescent around the coin .. Hopefully these images are at it's best!! Let me know what do you think?! image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg

I don't know what it is, but at least you found something visually macroscopic. I was looking through Wexler's list of die varieties for the 2010 cents, and you really do need a microscope to see most of them. Such tiny varieties just don't hold my interest.

I went through 10 rolls of 2014 cents, just because they arrived at the bank last month, and found nothing - they were are all dreadfully perfect and boring. Well, there may have been some microscopic doublings, but I can't be bothered with that - (no offense to the guys with microscopes!)

It looks like a plating issue...plate shift is what I think they call it. Something you see commonly on 80s and 90s zincers.

If you look closely it's almost 45-50% pressed in. Possible dye crack or grease trap? It goes all the way up to the letters of America look closely. Can't be a planchet error

Crescent? Educate me. Is that the dark area in the photograph?

I will respectfully disagree. A plating issue is the cause of the ridge near the edge of your coin.

And what causes the "plating issue" a crescent that comes from no where "flat to smooth to deep then to flat. And I looked at it. More then 50% of the coin is like that so now teach me what I need to learn before I just go bonkers on some nonsense haha

As one other commentator has noted, this is a manifestatation of die deterioration.
