Friend Walter, if they're not in original packaging, how do you verify providence, or isn't that an issue as far as you are concerned? I'm just the opposite of you, my collection has to be original packaging. Nothing negative here, I'd just like to reconcile your style from mine. Thanks, Douglas
I've got proof sets from 56 to present and mint sets from 57 to present. I like the original packaging and the history that goes with it. Even those slips put into early proof sets telling the receiver to not call and complain about the coins because the flaw is probably in the plastic packaging. It's not easy these days to find really nice original mint sets from 64 down. I like toning but most I see just makes me grimace. Give me a full lustre coin any day. I've also got the souvenir sets from 82 and 83. Anyone else have these?
Howdy, I've got proof sets back to 1960 and mint sets off and on back to the 90's. I had the earlier mint sets but used them for albumn for each of the coin series. I'd like to work back thru the 50's with the proof sets, but for my series sets, I'm working back thru all of them in either proof or BU to exhaustion (or my body or my money). For example, I have cents back to 1930, nickels to 1936, dimes to 1935, quarters to 1940 (yeah, this is a toughie to finish the washingtons), halves - all the kennedies except for the matte proof and all the franklins and just starting on the walkers. dollars - sac's and susies and ikes are complete. Lately, I've been working on my buffalos and indian heads - but they're a long way off and will never be BU. You can do some of them in BU, but without a lot of funds, and even with, many of them are OB. The IHC would be easier and cheaper than the buffs as some of the early dated buffs in mint state are very expensive. oh well, anyone want to give me $100K or so so I can finish upgrading my collection? :smile teehehe rono
I think the proofs are from 1952 to present and the Uncirc sets I have no idea. Every year I order 15 to 20 sets of each and have been doing that for a long time. Most I give away as Christmas Gifts. Some are broken up for collections and the rest go into severa large boxes full of the dumb things. Recently I gave away all the so called Pretige sets because they took up to much room. Same with all my commemoratives.
Holy Crap... 15-20 Sets.... I thought people might think me nuts for ordering 3-4 of the various things the Mint puts out... Thats Awsome... You give'em away!!!! What a guy... And you gave away Prestige sets and Commens because they took up to much room??? Can I get on your Christmas list??? I'll build another climate controlled wing onto the "ol' Humble Mullen Abode" if I have too.... How cool would that be to have a relative or friend that gave you Numismatic Gifts each year!!!!
Hmmm....selling the last of my mint sets now on ebay. Proof sets on the other hand......1959 to present, with all the silver except for the Silver 1997 Plus a secong collection of 85 to present missing just the 1997 Silver Proof. Yup that is it. Sold off all the triplicates, quadruplicates and the quintipulicates already. Were those even real words? lol
I have almost all proof sets from 1957 to 2006 including 1960 small date set which I can never fig why it has not gone up in price more. have many uncirc sets from 1960 to 2006 including blue and brown Ikes , SBA from 1999 proof and uncir from the mint The 1987 mint sets are way under priced @ 7.00 that is the on way you can get the Kennedy P & D you would think it be a lot more so I have been buying them
