I found a 2012 Hawaii Volcanoes quarter. I can not figure out whether it is worth something or not. Checking online, I found, it will be worth around $200 if it is made of silver, and around $2 if it is not. How can I tell which one it is?
    Thanks

First, check the mint mark. Only quarters with an "S" mint mark from San Francisco would be silver. Then check the edge. If it is all silver then you probably have a winner. If you see copper, it is a regular proof. Again, this only applies to "S" mint coins.

If you have a "P" or "D" mint coin none of this matters because it is not silver.

What about the edge? There is nothing there.
And what about the mint mark? I dont know much about coins.

I just edited my post. I realized the first one was rather vague. Hope I explained it better.

  6. If it is silver, it is worth $3.57.

If it is not silver, it is worth $.25. The prices you see may be for graded mint state uncirculated or proof coins.

check the small letter to the right of george washingtons face. if it is P or D, its worth $0.25. if it is S, check the edge and see if it is white or red. if it is white, its silver and worth around $4. if it is redish color, it is cupronickel clad, and worth about a dollar

$200 for a silver Hawaiian? First off, it would have to be a proof coin minted at the San Francisco mint. It would have the 'S' mint mark on the obverse of the coin too. Fellows above me say 'check the edge, but one other thing to do is to perform the 'tissue' test. Take a nice white piece of kleenex and place it over the coin. If what you observe is dull and grey then it's a clad coin. If the silvery finish shows through the tissue, you've got a winner............but not for $200. Who told you that?

    And welcome to the forum.......:)

unfortunately, its not really worth $2.00. it is an ordinary quarter, price guides for current coins are very overestimated. its no rarer than any other quarter 2010-date

Im just going to keep it, no point in selling it to make 75 cents. I was just hoping it was the 200$ silver one.
