How can it be a doctored picture? And why would he do that... Plus, that Nickles reverse is a little messed up if you ask me. -Rob
How ? Easy, use photo software. You can make a picture look like anything you want. And why ? - to try and get somebody to buy it by thinking it is something that it is not.
I think the photo is real and untouched, but I can't explain why the coins are the sizes they are. The dime is either as big as the nickel, or the nickel is as small as the dime. If either of the coins had been enlarged using Photoshop or something, there would be a major difference in digital clarity between the two coins. The picture is the same quality throughout itself. So yeah, it must be the coins.
They are not real, they are reproductions that people make for all kinds of occasions like "allowance" "tax return" "the nixon dollar, carter dollar, reagan dollar, bush, clinton, bush, pick your future president" et cetra, I personally have both of those coins on a lighter my wife gave me two Christmases ago with a toal of five miniature coins of various denomination that are all the same size and that says small change, another cute coin collector related item. The first thing I did when I looked at it was say this mercury has the wrong date on it it should be 1916. My wife just smiled.
Andrew - Would you also be surprised if I told you that you can take any coin you choose and shrink it ? Yes shrink it, make it much smaller than it was to begin with. Well you can if you have the right equipment. And please, don't ever doubt the ability of folks to to make pictures seem like something they are not. Like this one -
yes, i've actually seen that science done, however when you shrink it you cannot decrease the mass, so the coin ends up getting thicker as the surface area decreases. I've also seen shrunken $1 bills
I didn't know you could shrink coins or bills, at least not without really ruining them. All I'm saying is that the photo looks unedited, but that's only coming from someone that has five years of experience behind Photoshop including two years of schooling on it. But even if one of the coins (or both for that matter) are shrunken or whatnot, he still needs to explain how why the dime he deems authentic is dated two years before its kind. Obviously the dime isn't authentic, but I'd like to see the seller himself explain his situation. I contacted him about it and he said they're authentic, riiiiiiight.
I just sent a question to the seller and asked if the date on the lib dime was correct and if it is the same size as a current dime, I'll post the answer if i get one.
All it takes is a few mins. in photoshop and you can make anything you want with just a few min. work. I've taken coins and chaged the dates hundreads of years----now the hard part would be changing the coin itself! Speedy
The dime was added to the photo. Do a simple zoom and the pixel changes are evident. Still cant make out the date here though.
I'm not saying it doesn't ruin them, just that they can be shrunk. Click Here I'm also not suggesting that the coins in this ebay spot were shrunk. I still think it's just picture magic.
The 1914 dime is known as a "Barber Dime" and is made of 90% silver. The value will normally range anywhere between $2 and $3, but may be higher depending on the coin's condition. The best thing to do is try to post a picture of the coin on the site, and someone can let you know the value depending on the condition. Hope this helps.
