How many of you have ever seen a French 40 Francs? I was shown 2 of them - an AN 12A (1805) one of Emperor Napoleon I (Napoleon Bonaparte) & an 1830A one of King Charles X.

    Hello again Aidan,

I didn't have any, so I quickly shot one at lunchtime, it's far from perfect but take it as is, please.
So it's a Louis Philippe 40 francs, minted in 1833 at Paris mint (A)

    Enjoy

    Adian,

You have just made my day ... I get to show off my newest gold purchase from the Heritage 2007 January New York Signature World Coin Auction #425

Napoleon Bonaparte gold 40 Francs, 1812-A.

These photos are from Heritage . in hand the coin is a more normal golden honey color. I received the coin today and will re-photo it this weekend. It is a real nice looking coin and in a very uncommon quality to boot.

Does graded french francs carry a premium over the non-graded regular UNC?

Some people seem to think so, otherwise they wouldn't keep these third party slabbers in business. if you mean `outside of the USA, does graded french francs carry a premium...(etc)' i'd have to say a resounding `No. Not at all.'

I agree,it's beautiful.I only have the 20 franc (1811) and definitely NOT MS-62,more like XF or less.
