Please, Guys Help me about this coin, as my time is ticking for the auction, and i don't know if i should go ahead and get it..or it's just a fake stuff. the seller told me that it's a Billon Dirham struck by the Numayrid kings in Harran and Al-Raqqa in Syria. This dynasty ruled 380 – 455 AH (990 – 1063 AD).?????? Is that right?? and what is the writting on it. HELLLP
At first glance, the tiny picture looks like it has Hebrew characters, which would be totally inconsistent with what the seller is telling you. However, when enlarged they are neither Hebrew nor Arabic, so Unless it's going for a buck or so, I wouldn't buy something without more knowledge of what it is.
Well his feedback looks fine and it is not too expensive stood at around $11 at the moment so you might well have to take a chance! De Orc :kewl:
So , Aidan, I took the challenge On one side : ARABIC : (La) "Ilah Ila Allah Muhammad Rasul" (Allah) , NASIR ... Translation : "(No) God But Allah , Muhammad is messanger" (of Allah) . "Nasir" , is a private name of a ruler. On The Other side : ARABIC : "AlRahmaan AlRahiim" , common Translation based on the Quraan: The most compationate , the most merciful - Titles for Allah , taken from the first verse of the Ouraan. The coin is likely to be ONE FILS , but there are many NASIRs in Arab History so it will be a hard task to find who, where and when , minted that coin. I have an access to 2 great sites of Islamic coins with photos.
Thank you so much Giladzuc, that was so helpfull. Can you sent me the links to the web sites please..in order to make more research about it. Thank again.
Naboul,I told you that Giladzuc (or Gilad Zuckerman) could help you to a certain degree. There are quite a few coins from Islamic countries that use quotations from the Koran on them. Aidan.
