What's everyones opinion on the short term as well as long term on the 2006 fractionals? I can't see them doing like the 1995 eagle did, but I'm optimistic that this whole set will do well. Even considering the glut of U.S. Mint products on the market.
tracy5900, The final mintages may go down a little bit if anyone returns coins to the mint. Buck, IMO the Unc. W fractionals will take a while (4 + months ) until they start to significantly increase in value. When the 2007 issues come out, some people may realize this is the beginning of a new series, and the 06-W unc. fractionals were not a one-time deal. Considering the low mintages, I wouldn't be surprised to see 3-4X issue price by the end of this year for 06W fractionals. Only my $0.02.
Well..your two cents is worth a buck or two in this case! I feel the same way except it may take a little longer than 3-4 months...In order for anyone to get the 1/2 ounce or other fractional coin other than the individuals they sold would to be break up the set! Not many folks would be willing to do that..I would not! So for those of you who have the fractionals..well hold on the pony will gallop when it gets near water!!! RickieB
From a historical perspective, the first year of issue often turns out to be the date with the lowest value.
I remember when the 1995 W Silver Eagle was offered with the four coin gold set. At that time, it was too rich for my blood. But as I remember, this coin didn't immediately command the huge prices it does now. It took a year or two at least for it to skyrocket, because I can remember becoming more ill each time I checked it's price. I have no misconceptions of these gold fractionals becoming as popular, because i think the collector base is much smaller. However, these coins have to do well with mintages this low. I'm holding mine for a few months at least.
I picked up the 4-coin set for keeps. I'm going to enjoy them for a long while to come. These coins are works of art.
