I got this email from the Mint News Blog yesterday. I will be getting a Gold Kennedy, at least. http://mintnewsblog.com/2014/04/us-mint-numismatic-gold-coin-prices-decreased/
They will probably issue the gold Kennedy at the ANA convention with a limit of 10 per person so they can all go over to the NGC table and get the special labels and the flippers can make scads Of money. Maybe I will bring my grand kids and promise them something to stand in line for hours so I can get lots of them.
What's the general markup on gold commemoratives like this? Say on the Reverse Buffalos and UHRs, how much over the price of gold did they cost? Was it like 125% the spot or something close?
All I need is one, but if I can get two or three to flip and pay for the coin that resides in the collection I will be happy. I'm a low level speculator. I only purchase what I think is going to further augment my collection.........A Bilbo Baggins so to speak.
A little uncomfortable for me, but I'll sell a liver or something before then. Just. Gotta. Have. It.
Earlier this year the acting Mint Director said they would be a fiscal year 2014 offering. The fiscal year 2014 ends Sept 30th. Earlier they were taking about a 50,000 coin limit on the gold coin, so I don't think they could do a one month ordering window on it.
If they do offer a gold version, I hope it's later rather than sooner. I need time to flip my Baseball HOF coins first so I can afford these... In all honesty, I hope they DO NOT offer a gold Kennedy.
