Hey everyone: We recently bought this so-called dollar (HK 420) and this particular coin was made into a medal of some sort. It looks like it was done at or close to the time of minting. I can't find reference on ANY with the loop. Does anyone have any light that they can shed?

The lite has been shed for you by @Steven Shaw That is an interesting medal of sorts, thanks for sharing @mikenoodle
It was added after to make it into a watch or some other kind of fob. Many items like this were modified. It's better than a hole.
@johnmilton is an absolute treasure trove of knowledge on these. He gave me boatloads of info before I bought mine.
Here's the link to the ebay auction. The picture isn't showing, but, it is the same as the one I posted. https://www.antiquesnavigator.com/d...osition-san-francisco-watch-fob--silver-.html
Perhaps the loop was designed to have a ribbon threaded through it and worn as an award or designating someone as a member of a Fair committee. Just a guess.
