Any one here collecting specifically Chartered Companies' emissions, like East India Company, British North Borneo Company or Imperial British East Africa Company (British), Dutch East India Company (VOC) (Dutch, probably the most common), Niassa Company (Companhia do Niassa - portuguese) or the German New Guinea Company (Deutsche Neuguinea-Kompagnie) or the German East Africa Company (Deutsch-Ostafrikanische Gesellschaft) (german)?
The emissions are specially rare for most parts, except for the VOC's, and very interesting coins too.
For the time being I leave a Half Cent of the British North Borneo Company:

so this be one of the coins from one of the large companies that made their own currency in order to enslave their workers eh?

No, they made their own currency because their royal highnesses in Europe gave them the ability to do so.
Probably they used the currency to enslave natives, as most large multinational corporations did and do so.

I don't collect them, but it's a very interesting niche. Nice coin!

I think this sort of thing is one of the more interesting areas of coin collecting. I don't have a lot for any of those categories but have some of most. I'm not sure what specifically the companies' coins are. Do British East African coins from the 1900s qualify? I have been buying these lately.

Formally there were subtle differences though. For example, the two German colonies you mentioned (East Africa and New Guinea) started based on treaties that private chartered companies made with the locals. Kiautschou on the other hand was a colony based on a lease treaty. But of course the government got involved in DOA and DNG pretty quickly.

Another interesting and not well known company was the Brandenburgisch-Afrikanische Compagnie, established in 1682. The idea was to exploit the area (part of today's Ghana), and profit from the slave (and other) trade. It was relatively short lived (less than 40 years), see here. The BAC also began as a private company, except that Elector Friedrich Wilhelm was one of the shareholders ...

Some images - I don't own any of these ;) The first coin on this page is a "Guinea ducat" from Brandenburg, the second one is a 2 ducat piece from Denmark which mentions Christiansburg in Guinea. And here is an image of a Brandenburg "Guinea medal".

I think I have something that fits this thread, one of the few world coins in my possession.

    A bit ill-treated but I like it. :)

Well, in 1894 Great Britain created the East Africa Protectorate and dissolved the Imperial British East Africa Company so after that date all emission in British East Africa were royal and not private.
Numismatically speaking we remained with the Mombasa emissions of 1888 and 1890.
